Distinguished Young Women Program

AES Engineering Scholarship

·      This is a $500 scholarship

·      Applicants will submit an essay on one of two topics

Horatio Alger Association Scholarship funded through AEP Foundation

·      16 $5,000 scholarships will be awarded

·      Must have a commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited institution in the US

·      US citizen and resident of Ohio

·      Critical financial need, preferably having a $50,000 or lower adjusted gross income per family

·      Involvement in co-curricular and community service activities

·      Minimum GPA of 2.0

Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation

·      Eligibility requirements:

o   CURRENT high school seniors attending school in the United States

o   U.S. Citizen

o   Anticipate completion of high school diploma at the time of application

o   Plan to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution

o   Carry a minimum 3.0 GPA at the end of their junior year of high school

·      250 4-year scholarships will be awarded based on academics, leadership and community service

·      Approximately 2,200 applicants will be selected as Semifinalists and notified by mail and email around December 1.

·      Semifinalists must then complete a secondary application, including essays, official transcripts, and two letters of recommendation. Semifinalist applications are due by mid-January. Our Program Review Committee will select 250 Finalists to advance to the final interview phase. Notifications are sent mid-February.

·      In April, the 250 Finalists are invited to Atlanta for personal interviews. The Finalists are interviewed by a National Selection Committee representing outstanding leaders in business, government, education and the arts. 50 students are then designated as National Scholars and receive awards of $20,000 for college; 200 students are designated as Regional Scholars and receive awards of $10,000 for college.

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

·         Honors students for outstanding community service to their communities

·         Open to any student in grades 9-12

·         State Honorees receive $1,000 and National Honorees received $5,000 among other prizes

·         Application deadline is November 1, 2011

·         After submitting application, students must also send their applications to their school principal who will then select the school’s top applicant.

 

Voice of Democracy Scholarship Competition

·      This scholarship is open to high school students (grades 9-12)

·      Students begin by competing at the Post level. Post winners advance to the District level. District winners compete in the State competition. The State winners will compete for the National title.

·      Students compete by writing and then recording a 3 to 5 minute audio essay expressing their views of the 2011-12 patriotic theme “Is there pride in serving in our military?”

·      All state winners receive at least a $1,500 scholarship but any one of them could win the $30,000 national scholarship.

Elks National Fund—Most Valuable Student Scholarships

·      Applications can be downloaded from the internet at www.elks.org/enf/scholars

·      Any senior may apply

·      500 4-year scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $15,000 per year will be awarded

·      Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership and financial need

·      Deadline is December 2, 2011 which means that ACT/SAT must be taken before November 15th.

 

AXA Achievement Scholarship

·         A winner will be selected from every state nationwide

·         Scholarships of $10,000 and $25,000 will be awarded

Fireside Catholic Publishing Essay Scholarship

·         Seniors who are enrolled in a Catholic high school are eligible to apply

·         Five $1,000 scholarships will be awarded

·         Applicants must write a 750 word (max) essay addressing the topic “how is your religious education influencing your life?”

·         Only one applicant can be selected to represent DeSales, so if you are interesting in being considered, submit your essay to your counselor by December 2nd. We will then select our school’s representative.

 

NFIB Young Entrepreneur Awards

·         Scholarships valued from $1,000-$10,000 are available to recognize young people who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit and initiative. A minimum of 100 scholarships including renewable and non-renewable awards will be given.

·         Any high school senior who owns and operates their own small business and are planning to enter a 2 or 4-year institution during the fall of 2011 may apply. An officially established business is a requirement!

The Engineers Foundation of Ohio Scholarships

·         A variety of scholarships are available

·         Open to seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA and minimum ACT (math=29, English=25) or SAT (math=600, critical reading=500) scores

·         There may be additional criteria for certain scholarships. If interested, pick up an application packet from the Guidance Office.

·         Applications must be received by Dec. 15th.

 

High School Innovator of the Year Scholarship

·      First, you will need to create a profile at www.cappex.com/scholarships. This will allow you to be notified of many scholarship opportunities.

·      One $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student who has invented something noteworthy or improved a process that affects their school, city or town during their high school career

·      Deadline to apply is December 31, 2011

 

Lead with Your Heart Scholarship

·      Applicants must first create a profile at www.cappex.com/scholarships. This will allow you to be notified of many scholarship opportunities.

·      One $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student who has dedicated their high school career to working for the greater good. This award is about selfless service that has made a big impact on the community or beyond

Eastern Michigan University Education First Essay Contest

·         Eastern Michigan University, in partnership with annarbor.com is sponsoring an essay contest

·         One Junior will be awarded $7,500 toward their tuition at EMU in the 2013-14 school year and one senior will be awarded $7,500 for the 2012-13 school year

·         Every participating student will receive a free t-shirt. Contest also includes free parking, lunch and basketball admission

·         The contest will take place on Saturday, January 14, 2012

John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest

·         Open to all students in grades 9-12

Burger King Scholars Program

·         $1,000, $5,000 and $25,000 scholarships are available to all eligible high school seniors and Burger King employees

·         Application period is November 15, 2011 through January 10, 2012.

 

Gates Millennium Scholars Program

·      To be eligible, a student must be African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American

·      Must be a citizen, national or legal permanent resident of the United States

·      Must have a cumulative unweighted GPA of a 3.3 on a 4.0 scale

·      Must be enrolling for the first time at a US accredited college or university as a full-time, degree seeking first year student in the Fall of 2012

·      Must demonstrate leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities

·      Must meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria

·      Must complete and submit all 3 required forms (Nominee Personal form, Nominator form, and Recommender form) by the January 11, 2012 deadline

Ohio JCI Senate Charitable and Education Foundation

·         There are 2 categories of scholarships, academic based and need based. Applicants may only submit an application for one category.

·         Academic-based: First place will receive $1,000 and second place will receive $500

·         Need-based: First place will receive $1,000; second place will receive $750; third place will receive $500

·         Pick up an application in the Guidance Office

·         Deadline to apply is January 12, 2012

 

University of Kentucky William C. Parker Scholarship Program

·      Applicants must be planning to enroll at the Lexington campus as first-time freshmen in the fall semester of 2012

·      Applicants must submit a high school transcript with a minimum unweighted cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and a 500-word essay on how they will contribute to diversity at UK

·      Awards will be made with values ranging from $5,000 to the cost of in-state tuition, room and meals

OSU Alumni Club of Franklin County Scholarship

·         Scholarship is worth $5,000

·         Scholarship is applicable to any OSU campus

·         Must reside or attend a high school in Franklin County

·         Must be in the top 10% of high school class

·         Must demonstrate involvement in school and community activities

·         Must demonstrate a positive attitude and sound interest toward college work

Mensa Education Research Foundation Scholarship Essay contest

·         Applicants must submit an essay of no more than 550 words that describes career, vocational or academic goals

·         Applicant must be enrolled, for the academic year of the award, in a degree program in an accredited US institution

·         It is NOT necessary that the applicant be a member of Mensa.

·         The general awards are unrestricted as to age, race, gender, level of post secondary education, GPA and financial need

·         There are a few special restricted awards

SAE International Scholarships

·         Scholarships are available for students who are interested in the study of engineering and related sciences

Bowling Green State University: Science and Math Education in Action Scholarship

·         Open to high school seniors considering teaching either secondary or middle education science or math.

·         Recipients are offered $3,800 the first year of college with increases each year up to at least $5,200 the fourth year

·         Basic criteria include: Ohio resident, incoming freshman in the fall of 2012, minimum GPA of 3.0, recommended minimum ACT of a 23, considering a career in teaching science and/or math

·      Five $3,000 scholarships will be awarded to FEMALES who will pursue a business-related career in the future

·        High school of attendance must be located in Franklin, Delaware, Licking, Fairfield, Pickaway, Madison, or Union counties

·       Applicants must file the FAFSA

·      Scholarship is worth $3,000

Newcomer Funeral Home Tradition of Caring Nursing Scholarship

·         $1,000 scholarship available to students who plan to pursue a career in nursing

Wick Poetry High School Competition (Kent State University)

·         1st place is a $3,000/year scholarship, 2nd place is a $2,000/year scholarship, and 3rd place is a $1,000/year scholarship

·         The competition is open to any Ohio high school senior who will enroll as a full time student at Kent State University

·         All entries must be original and unpublished

·         Each entrant must submit one portfolio containing 3 poems and a one page essay describing his or her interest in poetry

·         Each poem should be no more than 100 lines long

·         Entries must be postmarked between December 1 and February 1

 

AXA Achievement Community Scholarship

·         Up to 375 winners will be selected nationwide

·         Scholarships of $2,000 will be awarded

Elks National Fund—Legacy Awards

·      These applications are applied for only online at www.elks.org/enf/scholars

·      Up to 250 $4,000 scholarships will be awarded

·      Legacy Awards are open to any child or grandchild of a living Elk member in good standing

·      Deadline to apply is February 1, 2012 which means that ACT/SAT must be taken by December 31st.

 

Saint Michael’s College Edmundite Scholarship

·      This scholarship recognizes the commitment students have made to a Catholic education by attending a Catholic high school

·      Scholarship recipient will be awarded $20,000 over 4 years ($5,000/year)

·      Students must be enrolled full-time and maintain a GPA of 2.0 in order to maintain scholarship eligibility for the year

·      Students who wish to be considered for this scholarship must apply for admission by February 1, 2012

 

Robert Frost Elementary School Spirit of Community Scholarship Award

·         The applicant must be a graduating senior from a Franklin or Delaware county high school and must be a resident of the Westerville school district

·         The applicant must have been accepted at a university, college, two-year accredited college or technical school for post-high school studies

·         The applicant must have attended Robert Frost Elementary for a minimum of one complete academic year in grades 1-5

·         Selection criteria include demonstrated interest and participation in community and/or public service, character and leadership activities, and academic achievement.

·         Two $750 scholarships will be awarded to 2 graduating high school seniors

·         Pick up an application in the Guidance Office

·         Applications should be received no later than February 7, 2012

 

KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program

·         Awards are up to $20,000

·         To qualify, graduating high school seniors must earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75, enroll in a PUBLIC college or university in OHIO, plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree, be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, and demonstrate financial need

·         Applications are being accepted online December 1 through February 8, 2012

Suburban LaSertoma Scholarship and Memorial Grant

·         This award will be given to youths who have financial need.

·         In February 2012, one student will be honored and selected to continue on to the regional level

·         Applications are available in the Guidance Office

·         Applications must be received by February 12, 2012

 

National Co-Op Scholarship Program

·         Have a cumulative GPA of a 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale

·         Be admitted and attend one of the National Commission for Cooperative Education (NCCE) Partner Colleges and Universities, all of which have quality cooperative education programs. A couple of schools that qualify are the University of Cincinnati and the University of Toledo.

·         1,200 scholarships of $1,000 will be awarded

Education First Credit Union Scholarships

·         Five academic scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each will be awarded this year. All scholarship applications received will also be forwarded to the Central Ohio Chapter of Credit Unions for the opportunity to receive one of 6 additional $1,000 scholarships

·         All applicants must provide a complete application, be a current member of Education First Credit Union, provide current high school transcripts and be a senior in high school preparing to attend college.

Builders Exchange of Central Ohio Scholarship Program

·         BX scholarships are available to high school seniors who plan to pursue a degree in a construction-related field (such as architecture, landscaping, engineering, project management, etc.)

·         Last year, 39 students shared a total of $50,250. Individual awards were as much as $2,500

·         Applicants will be evaluated on the follow criteria: academic achievement, community/school involvement, financial need, relationship of the student’s field of study to the construction industry, potential future impact of the student on the central Ohio construction community and the quality of the application

·         Applications must be complete and accompanied by an Official transcript for consideration

·         Applications are available in the Guidance Office

·         Applications must be RECEIVED by the Builders Exchange no later than NOON on Friday, February 24, 2012

 

Federal Reserve Bank Creative Writing Contest 2012

·         Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 winners in each category: Category 1 is essays & category 2 is poems, short stories and plays

·         1st place winner will receive a $500 cash gift card; 2nd place will receive a $250 cash gift card; 3rd place will receive a $100 cash gift card

·         This contest is open to 11th and 12th grade students attending schools in the Fourth Federal Reserve District (Franklin County is accepted)

·         Each entrant must be under the supervision and direction of a teacher

·         Submissions must be accompanied by the student entry form and must be postmarked on or before February 27, 2012

·         Scholarships up to $100,000 are available

·         Students with an interest in automotive technology who plan to major in a field of study that focuses on engineering, technology, design or business are encouraged to apply

John H. McConnell Scholarship (Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation)

·         Applicants must be goal oriented with a clear vision for their future, have a commitment to serve their family, school and community, possess leadership qualities and a strong work ethic, lead by example, have a passion for improving others’ lives through their own means, abilities and life, and be available to participate in a late-March, in-person interview should he/she become a top 3 finalist

·         This is a $10,000 scholarship

Columbus State Community College Scholarships

·         CSCC offers a variety of scholarships to high school seniors including the Tech Prep, Partnership and Success Scholarships. These programs are designed to provide merit-based financial aid to students who begin enrollment Autumn Semester and continue through Spring Semester

·         Recipients are selected as a result of a competitive process including a review of high school grades, extracurricular activities and personal statements.

·         The Tech Prep and Partnership scholarships may be renewed based on funding availability and academic performance.

James Kura Memorial Scholarship Competition

·         The Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers is awarding three $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors who will be attending a 4 year accredited college.

·         Qualified students should have a 2.5 GPA or higher

·         Scholarship applications are available in the Guidance Office

·         A 2 page essay addressing the following question is required: Should the police be allowed to search an individual’s cell phone, including text messages and emails, without a warrant? Discuss what limitations, if any there should be and why.

Latin Ladies Organization, Inc. Scholarship

·         Scholarships ranging from $500-1,000 will be awarded

·         The application is open to male and female Latino/Hispanic students living in Franklin County

Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year (SAMMY) Awards

·         Any senior who is a top student, athlete and who is involved in community service is encouraged to apply

·         25 $7,500 scholarships will be awarded

Annual BioOhio Scholarship

·         BioOhio will award 4 one-time $1,250 scholarships to seniors in an effort to encourage and advance bioscience-related education and career interests

·         To be considered, students must live in Ohio, be a senior in good standing, and plan to pursue bioscience-related studies in college

·         To qualify for payment of scholarship funds, the student must enroll in an OHIO college or university

·         Applications are available in the Guidance Office

·         A completed scholarship application, essay, transcript and two letters of recommendation must be postmarked by March 12, 2012.

 

Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program

·         This program honors young volunteers (ages 6-18) who have made an impact on their communities

·         More than 2,200 students will be awarded over $440,000 in scholarships and prizes

·         Top winners will receive a total of $10,000 for postsecondary education

·         Nomination period is February 1-March 15, 2012

Beechcroft Lions Club Linda and Terry Theis Scholarship Program

·         Scholarships will be awarded to seniors at Beechcroft and St. Francis DeSales High School who epitomize the Lion’s motto of “We Serve” during their senior year.

·         These scholarships will provide $500 toward the college of their choice

·         Eligible students:

o   Must carry a 2.6 GPA or higher

o   Must have performed (or will have performed) 10+ hours of community service during their senior year

o   Submit at least a 1 page summary of the service conducted over the past year and why it was important to serve their community.

·         Also include a cover sheet with your name, college/university that you will attend and any other information you feel is important for us to know about you

·         Deadline to apply is March 15, 2012.

 

Charles L. Warren Memorial Heritage Scholarship

·         A one-time award of $1,000 will be awarded to 3 individuals

·         Demonstrate financial need

·         Have an accumulated GPA of 3.0 or better in a college prep curriculum

·         Plan to attend an Ohio college or university

·         Demonstrate and show continued commitment to cultural and intellectual diversity

·         Submit the scholarship application, an official high school transcript, counselor recommendation and personal statement by March 15, 2012

·         Pick up and application in the Guidance Office

 

Westerville Rotary Scholarships

·         4 $8,000 scholarships will be awarded to a qualified Westerville area senior who will be attending Otterbein University as a full-time student. This scholarship will be awarded over a 4 year period ($2,000/year)

·         3 $3,000 scholarships are available to students who will be attending a 4-year accredited college in Ohio. These scholarships will be known as the Ohio scholarships and will be awarded over a 4-year period at $750/year

·         Applicants must be high school seniors who reside in the Westerville school district

·         Applicants must be eligible for acceptance by Otterbein University or the college of their choice (if applying for the Ohio scholarship)

·         Children and grandchildren of Westerville Rotarians are not eligible for these awards

·         Consideration will be given to personal reputation, academic accomplishments, extracurricular activities and to a lesser extent, financial need

·         Applications are available in the Guidance Office

·         Deadline to apply is March 25, 2012

 

Shamrock Club of Columbus MSGR. J. Colby Grimes Memorial Scholarship

·         One student from each of the 5 Columbus Catholic high schools will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship

·         This opportunity is open to current freshmen, sophomores and juniors who have a parent or relative currently belonging to the Shamrock Club or who are recommended by a current member of the Shamrock Club

·         If you do not know anyone who belongs to the Shamrock Club, please feel free to visit the club, introduce yourself and they will make sure that someone signs your application.

Ohio Newspapers Foundation Minority Journalism Scholarship

·         This scholarship is intended for Ohio high school seniors planning to major in print journalism at an Ohio college or university during the 2012-13 academic year

o   A minimum high school GPA of 2.5 is required

o   Applicants must be African American, Asian American, Hispanic or American Indian

o   Transcript and 2 letters of recommendation are required

o   Students must demonstrate the ability to write clearly in an autobiography of 750 to 1,000 words describing their academic and career interests, awards, extracurricular activities and any journalism-related activities

o   Applicants may provide up to 2 writing samples or articles that have been published

·         One $1,500 scholarship will be awarded

·         Pick up an application in the Guidance Office

·         Scholarship winner will be announced by May 15th

·         Deadline to apply is March 31, 2012

Columbus Italian Club Scholarship

·         At least 2 scholarships in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to seniors of Italian descent who wish to further their education

·         Criteria include:

o    Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.25 out of 4.0

o   Must be of Italian descent

o   Must be a graduating senior

o   Must attend, within 9 months of the award, a college or university that offers an associate or baccalaureate degree, or technical or trade school for additional learning

·       Applications are available in the Guidance office

·      Completed applications must be received by the scholarship committee by March 31st (which means it should be in the mail by March 28th).

US Bank Scholarship Program

·         Available to high school seniors and college undergraduates

·         Forty $1,000 scholarships are awarded in a random drawing

·         No essays

·         Program runs October through March 31st

Ohio Association of Career Colleges and Schools Scholarship Opportunities

·         This scholarship is for students who plan to pursue post-secondary training at a one of Ohio’s Career Colleges and Schools such as ITT Technical Institute, Ohio Business College, Miami-Jacobs Career Center (to name a few)

·         There are over 340 scholarships available ranging from $2,000 to $16,038

·          These scholarships are available to Ohio High School graduates of the 2012 academic year

·         A “C” average or better is required to apply

·         Each applicant must be nominated by a current member of the Ohio Legislature

·         Each applicant is eligible to apply for up to 3 scholarships, but must use a separate application for each scholarship

·         The scholarship recipient must start classes either the summer or the fall term following their high school graduation.

·         Open to seniors of Italian descent who plan to attend a 2 or 4 year college or university

·         Minimum scholarship amount is $1,500—A minimum of 10 students in the Central Ohio area will be selected

·         Scholarship applications must include a list of activities or resum, transcript, school recommendation form, ONE personal recommendation letter, and an essay responding to the question “Other than your family, what about your Italian heritage makes you most proud?”

·         Applications are available in the Guidance office and are due to St. John the Baptist Italian Catholic Church no later than 4:00pm on Monday, April 2, 2012.

William D. Squires Educational Foundation Scholarship

·      15 scholarships will be awarded to Ohio high school seniors in the amount of $3,000

·      The award is renewable—worth a total of up to $12,000

·       Based primarily on financial need

·       Applicants must also be graduating in 2012, have a specific career goal, be highly motivated, have good character, and show academic promise (3.2 GPA minimum)

Franklin County Farm Bureau Scholarship

·         Applicants must be a member of the Franklin County Farm Bureau or have a parent or guardian who is a member

·         Must plan to attend as a full-time undergraduate student majoring in an agriculture-related program at a university, college or technical school or have been involved as an active participant in an ag-related service for at least one year

·         Grade point average must be at least a 2.5

·         Two references must accompany the application

·         Applications are available in the Guidance Office

·         Postmark Deadline is April 13, 2012.

 

Educational Outfitters Scholarship

·         4 First place winners and 4 runner-ups will be selected.

·         The first place winners will receive a $2,000 scholarship while the runner ups will receive a $500 scholarship. Scholarships will be credited toward 2012-13 tuition.

·         Eligible students should display financial need

·         The assignment for this scholarship competition is as follows: Creatively express your ideas and dreams about faith, hope and love, what they mean to you personally, and the lasting impact they create in your family, community, nation, and world.

·         Submissions may take the form of an essay, short story, poem, song, picture, photograph, collage, blog/website, or short video.

·         Pick up an application in the Guidance Office for details and an entry form.

·         Submissions deadline is April 15, 2012.

 

Ohio Forestry Association Memorial Scholarship Association

·         The purpose of the OFA Memorial Scholarship is to provide assistance toward forest resource education to quality students

·         A minimum of one scholarship will be awarded each year.

·         To be eligible, the applicant must be an Ohio resident, U.S. citizen and high school graduate accepted for admission to an approved college or university, junior college, or technical college with a two-year minimum program. Preference will be given to students attending Ohio Colleges and Universities

·         Applications are available from Mrs. Shelton

·         Deadline to apply is April 15, 2012.

 

AAA Ohio Auto Club School Safety Patrol Grant

·         Seniors who once participated in the School Safety Patrol program are eligible to apply

·         Ten $1,000 grants will be awarded

·         To apply, pick up an application in the Guidance Office. A 500 word essay and at least one letter of recommendation are required

·         Materials must be postmarked no later than Monday, April 16, 2012

 

Visine Students with Vision Scholarship

·         One-time $5,000 scholarships are being offered to students who have demonstrated a clear vision or goal for their future.

·         High school seniors and current college students with a minimum GPA of 2.8 may submit an online application beginning February 15, 2012.

·         The deadline to apply is April 16, 2012.

Joshua O’Bannon Scholarship

·         A scholarship in the amount of $500 will be awarded to four graduating seniors from the Central Ohio area

Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Scholarship

·         Two $500 scholarships will be awarded

·         Open to children and grandchildren of any Vietnam era Veteran. Stepchildren are eligible if they reside full-time with the Veteran

·         Applicants must be an American citizen, live in Franklin county, and be a senior at a public or private high school located in Franklin county

·         Applicants must be registered to attend an accredited college or university or post secondary training institution and be pursuing either an Associate or Bachelor’s degree or a Certifiable Program

·         Two letters of reference, a list of volunteer activities and a 500 word essay addressing “Why I am Proud to be an American” are required.

Advertising Federation of Columbus Marvin Brown Scholarship

·         This scholarship is awarded to a High School Senior entering a two or four year college or university and majoring in the marketing or communications fields
