Mechanisms is
a fast-paced, in-depth program designed to challenge the serious science
student who is interested in medicine or medical research. Students in the
Mechanisms program investigate cancer and other disease topics with lectures
from research experts. At the final class, students present their research
paper to family, teachers and researchers at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
This course is lecture and activity based. There is no lab component.
·
Prerequisites for the program are high school
biology and chemistry (Class is designed for incoming seniors).
·
Selection for the course is highly competitive as up
to 20 candidates will be chosen.
·
Students must attend and participate in all class
and group project sessions.
·
Students should expect to spend an average of 10-15
hours each week on readings, research and papers outside of class
·
Students will be required to read 2 books, one of
which must be completed before class begins.
·
The top student in the class will be given the
opportunity to participate in an internship at The Research Institute at
Nationwide Children’s Hospital

Have you ever wondered what types of trees are in
Ohio’s forests? What kind of relationships organisms forge with the forest?
This, and much more, will be learned through this camp.
·
In addition to small group instruction, campers will
have opportunities for free time each day to engage in various group and
individual activities including volleyball, swimming, softball, boating and
fishing. Campers also participate in Adventure Valley at Camp Muskingum. This
portion of the camp is designed to help build confidence and trust within each
small group.
·
The camp is open to all students who are at least 15
years of age.
·
The camp dates are June 10-15th and the
fee is $325. Many campers receive financial assistance from a sponsor. The Ohio
Forestry Association, Inc. is happy to help link campers to potential sponsors.

educational activities that revolve around Otterbein’s horses and run the gamut
from daily riding lessons and horse handling to equine behavior and
communication. Campers will also learn how to administer first aid and evaluate

of this exciting hands-on camp.

MD Camp is an intensive, 3-week summer day camp that
gives participants an experience in the rigors of medical school. It is open to
Juniors, Seniors and recent high school graduates who

WiE RISE is a six-day, residential
summer program for high school women who are going into grade 12 in the fall
following the camp. This camp is sponsored by the Honda-OSU Partnership
Program.

WiE RACE is a six-day, residential
summer program for high school students, both men and women, who are going

11 in the fall following the camp. This camp is sponsored by
The Honda-OSU Partnership Program and OSU's College of Engineering.

both programs, applicants should have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.75 on a
4.0 scale and a B+ or higher in all math and science courses. Students must
provide a personal statement that shows a genuine interest in pursuing an

SEE
UA! camp at the University of Akron is an engaging one
week residential summer camp for girls
entering the ninth through twelfth grades that immerses the girls into
aerospace, biomedical, civil, chemical, electrical, mechanical and mechanical
polymer engineering. Each day is comprised of fun-filled hands-on engineering
activities in the morning led by talented faculty, followed by dynamic tours of
local engineering firms and then campus-wide activities in the evening. The
students also spend the week working as a team on an engineering design project
or research project and then compete against other student teams at the end of
the week. Students live in residence housing located on campus where the
resident assistants are upper-class engineering students. While there, they can
experience the life of a college student while exploring various engineering
disciplines available at the University of Akron. Even the resident assistants
are upper-class engineering students.

This camp offers hands-on projects allowing participants
to experience engineering. They will have the opportunity to use UD’s
state-of-the-art facilities and interact with professional faculty and
engineering students. Students will be regrouped for each instructional
component to foster interpersonal relations and provide new and exciting
intellectual challenges. More simply, the camp has been designed to answer the
question, “Why Engineering?”

The camp is open to rising sophomores, juniors or
seniors as of the summer of 2012

During the camp, students will use state-of-the-art
engineering laboratories and equipment while participating in hands-on
activities related to chemical, civil, computer, electrical and mechanical
engineering, as well as engineering technology

They are open to academically talented, civic-minded

Up to 40 students (20 men, 20 women) will be
selected for each topic area to come together to engage in intellectual
discourse, spiritual examination and purpose building exercises.

The Shelton Leadership Challenge is a six day
residential experience designed to help students expand their knowledge and
